Skeletal System Part 3: Flashcards
Name as many bone cells as you can:
- Osteocyte
- Osteoblast
- Osteoclast
- Lining cell
What is the osteocyte cell?
The basic bone cell
What is the osteoblast cell?
The repair cell: “b” - “build”
What is the osteoclast cell?
The cell that breaks down bone before repairing: “c” - “chaos”
What is the lining cell?
The protection: covers bone surface
Where do bones form?
Bones form in layers around a marrow canal
What are osteons?
Osteons are the layers around the marrow canal
- Osteons are made up of osteocytes
What is resorption?
Resorption is when osteoclast breaks down materials and materials get reused
What is reversal?
Reversal is when white blood cells make sure pathogens don’t get in
What is formation?
Formation is the process of restructuring bones
What is mineralization?
Mineralization is the process of calcification
What is rest?
Rest is when the bone is done growing
