What is the main purpose of the nervous system?
To control and communicate (within the body)
What are neurons?
The basic unit of the nervous system; sends signals/receives signals
What are glial cells?
Different cells with various roles to support the neurons
(does the jobs that neurons can’t)
What is action potential
The language of your body; basis for all thoughts + actions
- amount + speed changes the message
What are neurotransmitters?
Chemicals that change the shape + structure of the neurons (emotions are caused by neurotransmitters)
What are receptors?
Receptors turn things into action potential
What is the central nervous system?
The command center
What are chemo receptors?
Chemical receptors
What are mechano receptors?
Receptors that respond to pressure change
What are photo receptors?
Receptors found in eyes/light
What are nocio receptors?
Pain receptors
What is the peripheral nervous system?
It sends signals to the brain
