What is the purpose of the endocrine system?
To produce long term responses in the brain
- assists the nervous system in causing changes in the body
- produces hormones from glands to produce changes to homeostasis

Change causers
What are glands?
They make the change causers
What is homeostasis?
The balance you need to stay alive
What is metabolism?
The rate of burning energy
What are the types of glands?
- Pineal
- Pituitary
- Thymus
- Thyroid
- Adrenals
- Pancreas
- Ovaries/testes
- Thalamus
What is the pineal gland?
It regulates secondary control hormones
What is the pituitary gland?
It controls other glands (makes HGH)
What is the thymus gland?
It assists the immune system
What is the thyroid gland?
Celluar metabloism
What are adrenals?
They produce stress hormones; fight or flight response (cortisol, epinephrine, and norepinephrine)
What are pancreas?
They regulate blood sugar (insulin + glucagon)
What are ovaries/testes?
They produce testosterone or estrogen (sex hormones)
What is the thalamus gland?
It regulates blood calcium
