What is the purpose of the circulatory system?
To transport nutrients/gases in and out of the body
What are the 4 main ingredients in blood?
- RBC (red blood cell)
- WBC (white blood cell)
- Platelets
- Plasma
What do red blood cells do?
They help transport gases
What do white blood cells do?
They help fight infections
What do platelets do?
It stops bleeding
What is plasma?
The liquid portion of blood
What are blood vessels?
Tubes made of smooth muscle tissue that blood flows through
What is the heart?
A two chambered pump
How many chambers in total does the heart have?
4 chambers
What blood goes out and what blood goes in?
Oxygenated blood - out
CO2 blood - in
What are the three types of blood vessels?
- Arteries
- Capillaries
- Veins
What do arteries do?
They carry oxygenated blood away from the body; “A” for away
What do capillaries do?
They’re the smallest blood vessels; oxygen’s delivered to the body, carbon dioxide is picked up to travel to the lungs
What makes RBC’s and WBC’s?
Bone marrow
