Skeletal Malformations Flashcards
What is Chondroystophies?
Abnormal development of cartilage with disproportionate growth patterns
What is Achondroplasia?
The slow growth of cartiage and bone ossification
Waht are the symptoms of Achondropasia
Small stature, craniofacial megalocephaly, lu,bar hyperlordosis, short tubular bones, thoracolumbar kyphosis, mild hypotonia
Mucopolysaccaridosis
The storage of lipid and mucopolysaccharides in the nervous system and over accumulation in the mesenchyme
Hurlers
A build up of GAGs
Cleidocranial Dysostosis
Clavicular agenesis, Skull disorders, jaw disorders
What are the two kinds of Spina bifida?
Occulta and Cyctica
What are the characteristics of Occulta Spina Bifida?
It is limited to the skeletal components of the spine. on films, the spinous processes will appear unfused
What are the two types of deformities that are often associated with congenital scoliosis?
Vertebral numarical variations and morphological variations (missing or extra portions of vertebra)
What is a chordoma?
Where the notocord remains present within either the nucleus pulpsus or vertebral body and can lead to slow growing tumors
Oxycephaly
Premature closure of all cranial sutures
Trigonocephaly
Premature closure of the metatopic suture
Plagiocephaly
the sutures close asymmetriclly
Scapheocenphaly
The sagittal sutures close prematurely
Acrocephaly
Coronal sutures close prematurelly
Syndactyly
Fusion of the digits
Microcephaly
Small skull size and brain weight
Macrocephaly
large skull size and brain weight
The prevalence of cervical and lumbar ribs
cervical: 32%
lumbar: 30%
Amelia
Complete absence of a limb. often caused by environmental factors
Phocomelia
Absence of reduction of the proximal part of a limb often caused by environmental factors
Meromelia
Absence or reduction of the distal part of the limbs often caused by environmental factors
Sympodia
hypoplasia and fusion of the lower limbs (mermaid legs)
Dichira
Duplication of the distal parts of the limbs
Polydactyly
Presence of extra digits
Syndactyly
Fusion of the digits (often the toes)
Brachydactyly
Shortness of the digits
Hyper/polyphalangism
long digits with extra phalanges
