Nervous Flashcards
The nervous system as a whole has its origins from what
the ectoderm
The brain and spinal cord have their origins from what
thickened ectodermal layer
The three concentric layers or the nervous system
1) Ependymal layer
2) Mantle layer
3) Marginal layer
What develops from the ependymal layer
Low columnar cells
Adult Microvilli
What develops from the mantle layer
future grey matter
large neuroblasts/neurons
small glioblasts/glia cells
The White matter of the CNS develops from
Marginal layer
The nerve roots below the level of the end of the spinal cord (L1/L2 disc in adult) are called
Cauda Equina
These are intertwined within the cauda equinina and are extentions of the pia mater
Filum Terminalis (internis)
The end of the spinal cord extends to where at the 3rd moth of development
the entire length of the embryo
At the 6th month of development, the spinal cord is level with what
1st sacral vertebra
At birth, the spinal cord is level with what
2nd and 3rd lumbar vertebra
In the adult, what is the end of the spinal cord (conus medularis)
Lower end of the 1st lumbar vert. (L1/L2 disc)
The three primary brain vesicles
1) Prosenecphalon (Forebrain)
2) Mesencephalon (midbrain)
3) Rhombencephalon (hindbrain)
The Forebrain divides into these two secondary brain vesicles
Telencephalon and Diencephalon
Teh Rhombencephalon divides into these two secondary vesicles
Metencephalon (Pons, Cerebellum) and Myelencephalon (M.O.)
