Type 1 Chirari Malformation
A
- Most Common
- Cerebral tonsils are below the level of the foramen magnum
- can go unnoticed until trauma

Symptoms of type 1
A
Will appear in teens/adulthod
- Neck pain radiating to the shoulders
- Unsteady gait
- poor fine motor skills
- numbness/tingling of hands/feet

Syringomyelia
A
Cavities or cysts int eh spinal cord that can lead to progressive weakness that are treated by draining of the cysts

Type 2 Chirari
A
a great amount of brain tissue protrudes into the upper spinal column often related to spina bfida

Type 3 chiari
A
the back of the brain protrudes out of an opening in the underdeveloped part of the skull

Type 4 chiari
A
the back of the brain fails to develop propory and parts of the brain is usually missing

Causes of all chiari malformations
A
- exposure to toxic chemicals
- drugs/alcohol
- infection
- poor nutrition
