Unilateral renal agenesis
Absence of one kidney that is compatible with life
Bilateral Renal Agenesis
Absence of both kidneys. Not compatible with postnatal life
Type 1 Cystic Kidney
Found in infants. Early death unless dialysis or transplant. Kidneys are symmetrically enlarged
Type 2 Cystic Kidney
Variable size and shape. Often unilateral. The cysts grow larger with age
Type 3 Cystic Kidney
A mixture of both normal and abnormal tissue. Bilateral. Cysts are small at birth with enlarged kidneys. often associated with trisomy of 13, 14,15,18,21, and 22
Type 4 cystic kidney
Cysts int eh collecting tubules. Often have urethral obstruction.
Type 5 Cystic Kideny
Will often manifest in adults. If present at birth, will onset in the 40s. will present as back pain and chronic kidney infections

Trisomy 18,13-15, 21 and turner’s syndrome
