Kidney Flashcards
Which develops first, reporductive or urinary system?
Urinary
Which layer does the genitourinary system(s) develop from?
Intermediate Mesoderm
Which somite levels are associate with the genitourinary system?
Along the paraxial mesoderm from the 7th to the 28th somite level
How many distinct types of kidneys does the developing fetus have?
Three
What are the three kidneys that are present
1st- Pronephroi
2nd- Mesonephroi
3rd- Metanephroi
What kind of function does the Pronephroi kidney have
rudimentary and very little function
Where does the Pronephroi kidney develop? When do they develop and when do they degenerate?
they develop from the 7th to 10th somite level. first to develop and degenerate around the 4th week.
How many pairs of tubules are associated with the head kidney?
4 pairs
Where are the mesonephroi kidneys found? How many pairs of tubules are found in them? and where does degeneration occur?
- they are found between the 10th and 26th somite levels
- 38 pairs of tubules
- degeneration occurs from the cranial end
What is special about the tubules in the mesonephroi?
They are āSā shaped
T/F: the mesonefric tubules will remain present in all adults.
False: They are only present in males as the genital duct system. They are not retained in females
When do the metanephroi kidneys develop?
In the 5th week
What are the sources that the metanephroi kidenys develop from?
- Ureteric bud
- Metanephrogenic blastema
Where are the permanent kidneys located?
Just lateral to the mesonephric duct at the 26th to 28th somite level
What is the flat end of the bud in the metanephroi kidney?
Renal Pelvis
