Where is Singapore?
It is a country in south east Asia, and borders the bottom of Malaysia, it is very small
What is the population of Singapore?
5.7 million but is the 3rd most densely populated country in the world due to its small size
How much waste does Singapore produce?
1200 tonnes a day in 1970 to 9000 tonnes a day in 2020
What does Singapore do with items/waste that cannot be recycled or incinerated?
Sent to the Semekau landfill, the worlds first offshore island landfill
What is Semekau landfill?
A landfill site, island enclosed by 7km long wall allowing 60 million metres cubed of waste, which can take all of Singapore’s waste until 2045
How does waste arrive to Semekau?
By trucks and barges that carry the waste to the offshore landfill
Why is Semekau special?
As once a cell is dull it is covered with earth and eventually flora and fauna take over, solving Singapores small size problem by adding land, one of the most eco-friendly landfills even having its own ecosystem
