SIJ Flashcards
Marching test
Pt standing
Palpate PSIS
One thumb on PSIS other parallel on sacrum (on side of raised leg)
Pt stand on one leg whilst pulling opposite knee to chest
What does Marching test test for
SI or pubic joint strain, fracture
Hypermobility, joint dysfunction
Ipsilateral SIJ dysfunction
+Ve - Marching test
Localised P
Excess motion
Decreased ROM
Flamingo
Pt standing on one leg
Can ask P to hop to increase symptoms
What does it test for - Flamingo
Ipsilateral SIJ dysfunction
+Ve - Flamingo
Localised P
P in pubis symphysis + SIJ= lesion in whichever structure is painful
Glaenslen’s
Screening
Pt to edge of couch
Hold leg towards chest
Drop other off couch
Apply pressure to knee and flexed leg, to produce shearing of SIJ
What does it test for - Glaenslen’s
SIJ sprain, instability
Iliopsoas contracture
Lsp or hip pain origin
+Ve - Glaenslen’s
SI or ant thigh P
Elevation of extended hip, no SIJ pain
Thigh thrust
Hold leg to chest
Hand under sacrum/SIJ
Apply force down through knee + hip
What does it test - Thigh thrust
SIJ or hip pathology
+Ve -Thigh thrust
P in SIJ or hip
Compression
Pt on side
Find ASIS + PSIS, apply contact medially
Apply force down through pelvis
What does it test - Compression
SIJ posterior ligs, fracture, SIJ dysfunction
SIJ instability
+Ve - Compression
Posterior localised P
Decreased posterior P
Distraction
Contact on both ASIS
Push outwards + down
Low couch, lean weight on to Pt
What does it test - Distraction
Ant SIJ or pubic Jt sprain, fracture
Test L+R SIJ simultaneously
+Ve - Distraction
Localised P
Sacral thrust
Pt on front
No pillow under pelvis
Find apex of sacrum
Hands point towards head, flat on sacrum, reinforce with other hand
Apply force anteriorly
What does it test -Sacral thrust
SIJ dysfunction
+Ve - Sacral thrust
P in SIJ
Laslet’s Cluster
Gaenslen’s
SIJ Distraction
Thigh Thrust
FABER
Compression
What does it test for -Laslet’s Cluster
SIJ pain
+Ve - Laslet’s Cluster
3 or more positive tests
