SIDING OPERATIONS
What warning devices can be used to protect trains in Sidings?
Safety Banners - Danger Road Closed printed in red
Flags - on front of train
Tags - in Drivers cab
What does a Safety Banner tell you?
That the train is being worked on by maintenance staff or the overhead is being worked on
Who would you call if you had a banner or red flag on your train?
Fleet Controller or DAO
What does In Clear mean?
Train is not fouling points or other lines
SIDING OPERATIONS
If a fault is found while prepping a train and maintenance staff come to fix it what do you do?
Only operate equipment as instructed
If repairs require maintenance staff to work under train, they will take drivers key

What do you do when prepping a train, if you find a train allocated that is not consistent with info provided?
Don’t prepare train.
Contact DAO to enquire

What happens on “special trains”?
May not be set departure time
Standby
Remain on the train ready to depart at short notice

Where there is only one dwarf signal for multiple Sidings what do you have to do before departing?
Confer with other drivers to ascertain which train is going first

What is TR Point Procedure?
Prep train prior to dock time
Contact CS, TDN, departure time, destination
CS will give permission to to proceed to TR Point (do not do this without permission)
Position the train so that leading wheels are just ahead of the white marked TR Point
Wait for Proceed Aspect
Call CS if signal is not at proceed at TR time

What happens if the driver doesn’t position the leading wheels just ahead of the Block Announcer
The CS will not place the signal at Proceed - unless verbally informed train is ready

What happens during train prep when you can’t access train/or parts of the train due to obstruction or danger?
Metro Business Risk - for both defined areas and unforeseen circumstances
Driver may be requested to prepare unobstructed areas.
Metro take responsibility if anything goes wrong

They are used to protect mainline or other sidings from trains inadvertently rolling away

When stabling a train how far from Baulks, Buffers or previously stabled trains do you have to stop?
1 to 2 metres
