What type of signals are there in the MURL?
All signals are 3 Position Home Signals
Can you have a Low Speed Caution Signal on a home signal in the MURL?
No
What Signals does the Area Controller have Control over in the MURL?
Signals at:
Entrance and exit to tunnels
Departure end of each platform
Junctions
How are the rest of the signals (not controlled by AC) controlled?
They are Intermediate Signals controlled by the passage of trains and track circuits
(Homo-matics)
Why will blue lights flash in the MURL?
If the AC needs to contact the driver
If the blue lights in the MURL start flashing what do you do?
Stop the train using normal brake application and contact AC using either train radio or post telephone
If a home signal protecting points is defective and the AC ascertains the route line is displayed/correct, what must the AC still instruct the driver to do?
The driver must still check the points to ensure they are properly set for the move
Probably apply the hand block ….
If a home signal is defective in the MURL what authority is applied to pass it at STOP?
If it’s protecting points:
Signallers Caution Order
If it’s not protecting points:
Verbal (exchange names)
When a home signal protecting points in the MURL is defective what is the procedure?
The Driver must:
Perform relevant cab unattended procedure
Examine points
Place and lock the hand locking bar to secure the points
Advise the AC - receive Signallers Caution Order
When is evacuation of a train considered in the MURL?
As a last resort.
The safest place is usually on the train.
What are the two kinds of evacuations?
Controlled
Emergency (Uncontrolled) - In Extreme circumstances when it is more dangerous to remain on the train.
