Shoulder to Elbow vocab Flashcards
Superior smooth rounded end of the humerus that articulates with the glenoid fossa of the scapula to form the shoulder.
Head
Slightly constricted obliquely directed part of the humerus right below the head.
Anatomical Neck
Large bony prominence on the lateral, proximal portion of the humerus.
Greater Tubercle
Smaller body prominence on the anterior, proximal portion of the humerus.
Lesser Tubercle
A furrow that extends longitudinally on the anterior surface of humerus, between the greater and lesser tubercles. (bicep tendon attaches)
Intertubercular Groove (Bicipital Groove)
Constricted part of the humerus below the tubercles.
Surgical Neck
Named surgical neck because of frequency of fractures
Shaft of humerus.
Body
Rough prominence of the humerus on the antero-lateral surface where the Deltoid Muscle inserts.
Deltoid Tubercle
Small rounded prominence forming the lateral part of the distal humerus.
Forms a joint with the head of radius.
Capitulum
Pulley
Forms the medial, distal part of the humerus.
Forms a joint with the semi-lunar notch of the ulna.
Trochlea
Depression on the front of the lower humerus where the coronoid process of the ulna fits it.
Coronod Fossa
Small depression on the front of the distal humerus above the capitulum.
Where the radial head fits when the elbow is flexed.
Radial Fossa
Depression on posterior, distal humerus.
Where the olecranon process will fit when the elbow is extended.
Olecranon Fossa
Knucklelike rounded process on the medial distal humerus above the trochlea.
Medial Epicondyle
Smaller body prominence on lateral margin of distal humerus above the capitulum.
Lateral Epicondyle
