Shoulder/Pectoral Girdle Flashcards
Shoulder girdle is comprised of ___________ and __________. It attaches to the ___________ and the ____________.
clavicle and scapula.
humerus and sternum.

What are these two joints?

Acromioclavicular and sternoclavicular joint.

What type of joint is the acromioclavicular joint and what ligaments are involved?

Synovial plane joint.
Acromioclavicular ligament, coracoacromial ligament and coracoclavicular ligament.

What type of joint is the sternoclavicular ligament?
What ligaments are involved?
Synovial saddle joint.
Interclavicular ligament, sternoclavicular ligament and costoclavicular ligament, plus an articular disc.

What are the different movements of the scapula?
Elevation and depression.
Protraction and retraction (forwards and backwards).
Medial and lateral rotation.
The shoulder joint (aka __________ joint) is the connection between the humerus and the ________ fossa. It is a __________ join.
glenohumeral joint, glenoid fossa. Ball and socket joint.

Glenoid cavity, glenoid labrum, biceps brachii long head tendon.

Why are these called capsular ligaments?

Because they are extensions of the capsule.

What is the green structure?
What is its function?

Subacromial bursae: Facilitates the movement of the supraspinatus tendon under the coracoacromial arch and of the deltoid over the joint capsule and greater tubercle of the humerus.
WHat is this bursae?

Subscapular bursae: subscapularis muscle goes on top of it and it prevents rubbing.

Function of trapezius?

function of these muscles in red?

Levator scapulae: elevation of the shoulder girdle.
Rhomboid Major and minor: retraction of the shoulder girdle.

What is the function of the serratus anterior?
Protraction of shoulder girdle.
Prevents the scapula from being driven posteriorly and medially.

Function of the rotator cuff muscles on the humerus?
Supraspinatus: abductor.
Subscapularus: medial rotator.
Infraspinatus and teres minor: lateral rotators.
Function of the deltoid?
Function of the pectoralis major?

What is the function of the teres major and latissimus dorsi?

Pectoralis major: lateral lip of the bicipital grove.
Intertubericular grove is where the lattisimus dorsi is attaching
The teres major inserts in the medial lip of the bicipital grove. This is why the lat is thought of the lady between two majors.
