Bones and joints in the lower limb Flashcards
Pelvis

What is the pelvic girdle?
Bony ring, formed by two hip bones and a sacrum.

What are the different types of joints?

What type of joint is the sacroilliac joint?
What type of joint is the pubic symphysis?
Synovial but ossifies and becomes fibrous later in life.
Fibrocartilagenous.
Ligaments of the pelvis.

Acetabulum

What are the different ligaments of the hip joint?
Ligaments are thickenings of the joint capsule.
1: Pubofemoral, 2: Iliofemoral ligament, 3: Ischiofemoral ligament.

What is the blood supply to the hip joint?

Why are circumflex arteries important in hip fractures?
If the hip fractures it could cause avascular necrosis to the head of the femur as the circumflex arteries are occluded.
What type of synovial joint is the knee joint?
Bicondylar joint (synovial condylar type).
What are the main bursae of the knee

What are the intracapsular ligaments of the knee?

What does the ACL prevent?
Prevents anterior displacement of the tibia.
What does the fibula articulate with?
The tibia at 2 places then the talus.

What type of joint is the ankle joint?
What makes up the ankle joint?
Where is the ankle most stable?
Talocrural joint=hinge joint.

What are the main medial ligaments and lateral ligaments of the ankle?
Medial=deltoid ligament.
Lateral= Posterior talofibular ligament, anterior talofibular ligament, calcaneofibular ligament.

Bones of the foot

What are the 3 arches of the foot?
