Muscle groups in the lower limb Flashcards
What are the different fascias of the lower limb?
Thigh: Fascia lata.
Leg: Crural fascia.
What are the different compartments of the thigh?
What is contained in each?
Anterior, posterior and medial.
Anterior: Quadriceps and sartorius.
Medial: Adductors.
Posterior: Hamstrings
What are the extensors of the hip?
Gluteus maximus, biceps femoris, semimembranosus and semitendinosus (3 muscles known as the hamstrings).
Where do the hamstrings originate and insert into?
What are the flexors of the hip?
Iliopsoas, rectus femoris, sartorius
What are the hip joint abductors?
Where do they insert?
What nerve are they innervated by?
Gluteus medius and minimus.
Insert into the greater trochanter.
Superior gluteal nerve
What are the hip joint adductors?
What nerve are they innervated by?
PBLMG: peanut butter lovers munch grapes
Obturator nerve.
What are the attachments onto the pes anserinus from anterior to posterior?
Say grace before tea.
Sartorius, gracilis, semitendinosis.
What are the lateral rotators of the hip?
Where do they insert?
Lateral hip rotators and medial hip rotators.
What are the medial hip rotators?
Gluteus medius and minimus (insert into the greater trochanter).
Tensor fascia latae.
What are the muscle compartments in the leg?
What are the knee joint flexors?
Sartorius and gracilis in the thigh group.
Gastrocnemius and soleus in the posterior compartment of the leg.
What are the knee joint rotators (medial and lateral)?
Medial rotation: Sartorius, gracilis and semimembranosis.
Lateral rotators: Biceps femoris.
What are all of the ankle plantarflexors?
