Q

What are the main branches off the arch of the aorta?

A

There are 3 branches: the brachocephalic trunk (which splits into the right brachiocephalic and right common carotid), the left common carotid and the left subclavian artery.

7
Q

What are the 3 main sections of the auxiliary artery?

A

Axillary artery is split up into 3 parts with regard to the pec minor muscle.
1st part between the first rib and the upper boarder of the pec minor.
2nd part covered by the pec minor (lies under it).
3rd part is between the lower boarder and the lower boarder of the teres major.

Q

What are the branches of the auxillary artery which we need to know?

A

Need to know the anterior and posterior circumflex humeral artery. It winds around the neck of the humerus. If a person had a fracture in the humerus then these two arteries are likely to be damaged (auxillary nerve which can also be damaged).

Q

Label this

A

The posterior cord gives off the radial nerve and the auxillary nerve.

The lateral cord and the medial cord give the median nerve.

The middle cord gives the ulnar nerve, the lateral cord gives the musculocutaneous nerve.

Q

What are the two joints here?

What movements can occur at the elbow joint?

A

Elbow joint consists of two joints, the humeroulnar joint and between the trochlea and the trochlea notch of the ulnar.

Humeroradial joint-between the capitulum and the head of the radius.

Movement=flexion and extension.

18
Q

What are the attachments of the long and short head?

A

Long head of biceps brachialis: runs in the bicipital grove into the supraglenoid tubercle.

Short head: coracoid process. Both insert distally into the radial tuberosity.

19
Q

What nerve supplies the anterior compartment of the arm?

A

The musculocutaneous nerve.
