Shoulder, Peck and Breast Flashcards
Function of the Deltoid
Abducts humerus
Muscles of the Rotator Cuff
SITS- Supraspinatus, Infraspinatus, Teres Minor, Subscapularis
Function of supraspinatus muscle
- Part of rotator cuff
- Initiates abduction of the arm (first 15 degrees). Abduction is then completed by the deltoid.
Function of Teres Major
Adducts and medially rotates arm
Function of Latissimus dorsi
Extends, adducts, and medially rotates humerus at shoulder
Function of Rhomboids
Fixes scapula to thoracic wall; retracts scapula towards vertebrate and rotates it medially
Main arterial supply to shoulder
Transverse cervical artery, suprascapular artery, and the circumflex scapular artery.
Quandrangular Space
Bordered by: teres minor, teres major, long head of triceps, and humerus. Found within it: Axillary nerve and Posterior circumflex humeral artery
Triangular Space
Bordered by: teres minor, teres major, long head of triceps. Found within it: circumflex scapular artery
Triangular Interval
Bordered by: teres major, long head of triceps, and lateral head of triceps. Found within it: Profunda brachii artery and Radial nerve
Branches of the Axillary Artery
(Screw The Lawyer Save A Patient)
1st part (1 branch): Superior thoracic artery
2nd part (2 branches) Behind pec minor: Thoracoacromial trunk (Acromial, Deltoid, Pectoral and Clavicular) and Lateral thoracic arteries
3rd part (3 branches): Subscapular (circumflex scapular and thoracodorsal), anterior and posterior circumflex humeral arteries
Arteries and Nodes associated with the breasts
Arteries: Lateral thoracic, thoracoacromial, and Internal Thoracic
Nodes (CLASP): Central, Lateral (humeral), Apical, Subscapular (posterior), Pectoral (anterior)
Quadrant of Breast most likely to have breast cancer
Superolateral quadrant.
Lateral Thoracic Artery
Arises from axillary artery. Supplies subscapularis, pec major/minor and breasts
Function of circumflex scapular artery
Supplies teres major, teres minor and infrapinatus muscles. Found in the triangular space.
