Shoulder and breast Flashcards
Where do deltiods and trapezius attach?
Acromium
Pectoralis minor attachment
Coracoid process
What cant you raise arm about head without?
Deltiod
Where does deltoid connect?
Halfway down humerus at deltoid tuberosity
What does first 10 - 15% of lifting before deltoid works?
Supraspinatus
Rotator Cuff
SItS Supraspinatus Infraspinatus teres minor Subscapularis
What is usually torn in rotator cuff injuries?
Supraspinatus
Where does the transverse cervical artery run?
Over top of levator scapulae
Subclavian artery path?
Turns into axillary artery @ border of first rib. Turns into brachial artery at Teres major
Suprascapular Notch
Army over Navy under
Suprascapular artery and nerve go through: ligament that is found here
Quadrangular Space
Teres minor superiorly, teres major inferiorly, long head of triceps medially, humerus laterally
Axillary nerve and posterior circumflex humeral artery
Axillary Nerve - deltoid and teres minor
Triangular interval
Teres major, long head of triceps, lateral head of triceps
Radial nerve and Brachial artery
Triangular Space
Teres Minor (S), Teres major (I), long head of triceps (L) Circumflex scapular artery
Parts of axillary artery?
First part: Superior Thoracic Second part: Thoracoacromial trunk Lateral thoracic arteries Third part: Subscapular Anterior circumflex humeral artery - Circumflex scapular & Thoracodorsal Posterior circumflex humeral artery
What are breasts?
Mammary glands are modified specialized type of sweat glands
What ribs to breasts cover?
Second to sixth rib
How much of breast rests on fascia?
⅔ rests on deep pectoral fascia
⅓ rests on fascia covering serratus anterior
What is most of the breast?
Tubuloalveolar glands for milk production and fat
How many glands and lobes in breast?
15-20 glands with each forming a lobe
1 lactiferous duct per lobe
% of tumors originating in ducts?
80%
Breast Lymph Nodes
“CLASP”
Central, Lateral, apical, Subscapular, pectoral
Which portion of breast do most tumors start in?
50% of all tumors originate in the superior lateral portion of breast
Impingement Syndrome
Rubbing and clicking of shoulder on overhead motion.
Ball of shoulder rubs against ledge (Acromium) over shoulder. Associated with tendinitis and rotator cuff problems.
i. Treatment
Anti-inflammatory medicine, Cortisone Injection, Surgery to shave Acromium
Dislocation
Ball of shoulder pops out of socket.
Treatment
Reduction - Anesthesia is frequently required, Sling for 3-4 weeks, Exercises, Surgery to repair shoulder after 2nd or 3rd dislocation
Shoulder Separation
Injury to A-C joint; collarbone is displaced from top of
shoulder.
Treatment
Rest and sling, X-rays, Surgery may be necessary if severe
Rotator Cuff Tear
Injury to muscle and tendon that covers and raises shoulder. Symptoms include shoulder pain and inability to raise shoulder
Treatment
1. Rest, Medicine, MRI if no better, Surgery to repair large tear
