Shock part 5 Flashcards
Causes of obstructive shock
Decrease preload and decrease stroke volume—>
cardiac tamponade and tension pneumothorax
Cardiogenic shock
Heart fails to pump enough blood for needs
Decrease blood pressure and decrease cardiac output
decrease in cardiac output due to decrease in heart rate or decrease in stroke volume or
traumatic increase in heart rate we talked about tachycardia or bradycardia can cause decline in cardiac output
Both arrhythmias and contractility issues can cause cardiogenic shock
causes of cardiogenic shock
damage from myocardial infarction (MI)
acute heart failure
valvular damage
ineffective pumping due to arrhythmias (either too fast or too slow)
ventricular aneurysm
due too much vasodilation=__________shock
distributive shock
if you increase radius too much your going to decrease total peripheral resistance and that will decrease blood pressure in distributive shock
3 types of distributive shock
Neurogenic shock
anaphylactic shock
septic shock
due to spinal cord injury–>hypotension+bradycardia
what type of shock is this?
neurogenic shock
Presence of inflammatory mediatators
septic shock
anaphylactic shock
___________
vasodilatory shock due to systemic infection due to inflammatory response–>leaky and dilated vessels
septic shock
____________
vasodilatory shock
severe allergic reaction
anaphylactic shock
Hypervolemic shock, obstructive shock, and cardiogenic shock all involve what
compensation: increase TPR which causes extremities:cold, pale, mottling
cardiac output
Distributive shock involves low ______
compensation increase cardiac output
extremities:warm, pink/red, no mottling
TPR
