What are the symptoms of Shigella?

- Watery, loose stool (mucous/blood in severe cases)
- Fever, cramps
- tenesmus (straining to poop)

How is shigella treated?
A
Usually self-limited, 48-72 hours, antibiotics can shorten course

Are there any potential complications with Shigella? Are they common/rare?
A
bacteremia, Reiter’s syndrome, and toxic megacolon are rare complications
