Same gender Mati Work in Suriname by Gloria Weeker- It was common for women to have same sex marriage in addition to be married and they would help with children and their idea of sexuality was very flexible not as fixed and in many western cultures sexuality is fixed.

Some women had same-sex relationships with other women, sometimes lived with them, while also having - or later having - a relationship with a man, too. This practice was culturally accepted in Suriname, but not so if they migrated to the Netherlands because of sexuality being a more fixed, less flexible category there.
