Motivation
set of forces that drive people to behave in a certain way
Theory X (extrinsic motivation)
Motivation created by external factors including punishment and rewards. not interested in the activity for the sake of it, but for the outcomes of it
Theory Y (Intristic Motivation)
Motivation created by a person’s on will to carry out the activity for the sake of it like personal enjoyment or the betterment of skills etc

Maslow's hierarchy of needs ERG needs (Alderfer) Dual Factors model (Hezberg) Learning needs model (Mc Clelland)
Maslow hierarchy
each individual has needs or wants that drive their behaviour
once it is satisfied, it is no longer motivating
bottom to top of pyramid: Physiological needs Safety love and belonging esteem self-actualisation
ERG needs Alderfer
classifies Maslow’s needs into 3 categories:
Existence
Relatedness
Growth
when an individual fails to satisfy upper needs the individual will resort to resatisfying lower level needs

Motivators
Mc Clelland’s Learned needs
needs are acquired through interaction with the environment.
Need for affiliation
Need for power
Need for achievement
