SESSION 3 - Humans vs. Horses Flashcards
What do humans want?
Human wants and desires are countless in number and vary in kind
Technology can sever the link between infinite desires and full employment
What are arguments pro humans will be replaced by technology?
*Technological progress might reduce human employment
*Many service jobs could be automated
*Technological progress could be capable of decoupling ever-growing consumption and large-scale human employment (just as it did earlier with equine employment)
What are arguments against humans will be replaced by technology?
*People (unlike horses) can prevent themselves from becoming economically irrelevant
*The biggest barrier to fully automated economy is the fact that ppl don’t want to be served and interact exclusively with robots and AI
*Humans desire interactions with each other as we are a very social species
*Technological progress still is not on the tract to replace humans with robots and AI within the next years
*Humans have physical advantage over technology
–energy efficiency, multidimensional feedback allowing precise movement and control
*Humans have a mental advantage over technology –common sense, formulation of goals, and creativity
Humans vs. Horses
Name the differences
*Humans are capital owners (direct or indirect ownership) and can revolt
*People are able to influence economic outcomes, such as wage and income, through democratic process
*Legislature might pass restrictions on certain types of joy-destroying technologies
