Servicing Flashcards
PQMs and aircrew qualified in model can perform __ when __
servicing and handling of a/c when qualified maintenance personnel are not available
Minimum of __ ft should be maintained from other a/c or structures
50 ft
Minimum of __ ft should be maintained from any operating radar set
75 ft
When changing between authorized fuels
it is NOT necessary to drain the fuel system before adding new fuel
Fuels having same NATO code are
Interchangeable
Flameouts may be encountered following nosedown ground ops in excess of __ min; to prevent flameout,
10 min; establish IGE hover for 10 sec prior to takeoff
If FUEL PRESS illuminates during hover
don’t depart until it self clears
Restrictions for JP-4/JET B
- All TOs shall stabilize in hover with no fuel px cautions for min. of 10 sec before transitioning to fwd flight
- Single engine training
- Operating characteristics may change (may get lower op temps, slower accel, shorter range)
- Next 2 refuels with primary fuels hall be treated as if JP-4 in tanks
Primary Fuels
JP5, JP8, F24, TS1
Primary Fuel
Fuel that the a/c is authorized to use for continuous unrestricted ops
Restricted Fuel
Fuel that imposes operational restrictions on a/c
Emergency Fuel
Fuel which may be used for a minimum time when no other primary or restricted fuel is available in case of emergency or operational necessity
JP-5 capacity
590 gal, 4012 lbs
JP-8 capacity
590 gal, 3953 lbs
Fuel servicing unit shall not exceed __ psi to prevent possible fuel cell rupture
55
Internal fuel cell px greater than __ psi can cause rapid fuel cell expansion
2
Gravity fueling is not authorized with
engines/APU operating
During gravity fueling, beware of static electrical charge of ___ built up by rotors
15,000 to 20,000 psi
Utility Hyd Pump Capacity
0.92 quarts
Rescue Hoist Capacity
1.16 quarts
Engine Starter Capacity
200 cc
Engine oil servicing required when
oil level in sight glass is less than halfway between ADD and FULL
Service engine oil to
~1 in below full mark or adjacent to top set of bolts
When engine oil reaches ADD, need __
2 quarts of oil
After shutdown wait, __ min to check engine oil level
20 min
APU oil level can only be accurately checked
using dipstick
Proper level for Turbomach/Sunstrand APU is
halfway between full and refill
Proper level for Garrett APU
on dipstick
Wait __ after shutdown to check APU oil
1 hr
When xsmn oil level decreases to ADD, need
2 quarts of oil
Wait __ after shutdown to check xsmn oil
30 min
Xsmn hot scale
30 min to 2 hrs
Xsmn cold scale
2 hrs or longer
IGB is full when; needs to be replenished when
oil level is within the inner circle when pylon is spread; when bottom of outer circle can be seen
TGB properly serviced; reservice when
properly serviced when oil within lines/green area with pylon spread; if oil level below lower line
Don’t service IGB/TGB when
folded
Hyd pump reservoir capacities
1 US quart to FULL
When indicator at REFILL (red)
need 2/3 of pint to get to FULL
Fluid indicator on hyd pump is
1/8 inch wide
Util hyd pump servicing
3 white stripes indicates full; 2 indicates refill needed; 1 stripe indicates empty reservoir
Regardless of a/c config, util hyd pump rservoir
shall indicate full
Blade damper serviced with
combo of hyd fluid and nitrogen
Blade damper properly serviced when
in green or yellow (Full)
Nitrogen charge gauge should indicate
px for ambient temp listed
Windshield washer serviced with
water
Fire extinguisher bottles that have lost their charge for any reason
shall be replaced with fully serviced units
External power
115/200V, 3 phase, 400 Hz AC power
External power CB
4-amp CB that places 2-amp draw on power cable
Heavy weather
Wind in excess of 60 KIAS
Initial Tiedown
Consists of 4 tie downs, two on each main mount
This requirement exists just prior to and after shipboard aircraft movement, during shipboard aircraft startup, and immediately after landing aboard ship
Permanent Tiedown
Consists of 12 tiedowns (two on each attachment point) and is required aboard ship when not at flight quarters
Heavy Weather Tiedown
18 tiedowns (3 at each point) and is required with weather conditions in which surface winds reach an average velocity of 35 knots or greater and/or sea state of 8 feet, or wind over deck exceeds 60 knots, pitch exceeds 4 deg or roll exceeds 12 deg
