What are the function of Servers?
Servers provide specific processing services to other nodes (clients).
What do most Servers run?
Most Servers run a network operating system (NOS) to manage user access to the services the server provides.
What kind of Servers are there?
There are File Servers, Print Servers, Database Servers, Mail Servers, Web Servers, Web Servers and Proxy Servers.
What does a file server do?
A file server manages storage and retrieval of files and also application software in response to client requests.
What is Fault Tolerance?
The ability of a system to continue operating despite the failure of one or more of its components.
What must File Servers do?
File Servers must be able to process multiple file access requests from many users.
What does Print Servers do?
Print Servers control access to one or more printers for many clients.
What is the 1st advanced functions of the Print Server?
Ability to prioritise users based on their username.
What are Mail Servers?
Mail Severs is the application services like email.
What do Web Servers provide?
Web Servers provide services to web browsers and retrieve pages and retransmit back to the requesting client web browser.
Where is a proxy server located?
A proxy server is located between the clients and real Servers.
What does a Proxy Server do?
A Proxy Server fulfils requests on behalf of a real Server.
