Communication Systems Flashcards
What are the issues related to Communication Systems?
Internet Fraud Power and Control Removal of Physical boundaries Interpersonal Issues Work and Employment Issues
What are some examples of communication systems?
The Internet
Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN)
Intranet and Extranet
Teleconferencing
What is the Internet?
The Internet is a worldwide version of a packet switched network that was based on the Internet protocol where within IP datagrams, data moves between nodes.
What is the Public Switched Telephone Network? (PSTN)
The PSTN is the service that is responsible for traditional phone calls all over the world.
What is a Intranet?
An Intranet is a private network maintained by a company or government organisation and is based on the Internet protocol (IP).
What is an Extranet?
An Extranet is an extension of an Intranet to allow access to customers and other users outside the organisation.
What is Teleconferencing?
Teleconferencing is a term where it encompasses a wide variety of real-time conference systems, like location, people and where and how data is communicated in real time to all participants.
How possible is it for an IP data gram to make it to its destination?
There is no certainty to whether IP datagrams can make it to their destination or not.
What was the Internet designed for?
Asynchronous communications (email)
What was the Internet not designed for?
Synchronous communications (Skype)
What does the PSTN create?
The PSTN create an individual circuit and maintains it until the conversation between two people end.
What is the PSTN known for?
The PTSN is known as a “connection-based” or “circuit switched” network and it uses telephones as collection and display devices for real time synchronous voice communication.
How do most Internet providers establish their own connections?
Most Internet service providers use the PTSM for their own connections.
How does Intranets connect their local area networks into a private wide area network?
Intranets use high-speed lined to connect their own local area networks into a private wide area network.
What is essential about Teleconferencing?
The fact that there’s synchronous communication between many people in different locations.
