Identify the parts of the eye: **Conjunctiva, lacrimal glands, sclera, pupil, iris, cornea, lens, retina, optic nerve, vitreous humor, aqueous humor. **
What are the types of eye injuries?
- Enucleation
- Laceration
- Foreign objects
- Abrasion
- Burns
What is hyphema?
Blood in the anterior chamber of eye
Where can lacerations occur? How should you avoid while handling the eye? What should you do if part of the eye is exposed?
- A cut to the globe or surrounding tissue can occur
- Never exert pressure on or manipulate the eye
- If part of the eye is exposed, apply moist, sterile dressing and eye shield
How should you remove small foreign objects in the eye? What should you never do?

Irrigate with saline
- flush from the nose outward -
Never attempt to remove an object on the cornea
* *do not remove objects with fingers, use a moist q-tip**
What shoudl you not do in regards to impaled objects? What should you do?
- Do not remove it

-Immobilize the object in place
-Place moist, sterile dressing over the injured eye only*

How do you treat chemical burns of the eye? What do you use? How long do you treat?
- Irrigate then cover with dry dressing
- Use water, saline solution or powder (idk what kind)
- For 20 minutes
What part is usually effected by thermal burns? How do you treat it?
- The eyelids
- -Cover both eyes with a moist, steril dressing and eye shield
- transport supine to burn center
What can cause light burns? What does it effect? How doy uo treat it?
- Infrared rays, eclipse light, direct sunlight, laser burns, wielding without protection

- Very painful -
-Cover eyes with sterile pad and eye shield
- transport supine
What are other non trauma related eye problems?
- Blurred vision
- Double vision
- Sudden blindness
*Think CVA or other neurological disorders*
What kinds of eye injuries can occur following head trauma?
- One pupil larger than the other
- Eyes not moving together
- Failure of the eyes to follow equally
- Bleeding under the conjuctiva
- Protrusion or bulging of one eye
Should contact lenses be removed? What are acceptable ways they can be removed? What should you not about non function of the eye?

No, leave in place unless there was a chemical burn
* -trying to remove them can cause cornea damage* - Irrigation or patient may remove them
- If there is no eye function ask patient if they have an artificial eye
Know the external ear, middle ear, and inner ear.
Do ear injuries bleed alot? How should you treat ear inujries? What should you not do in regards to foreign bodies in the ear? What kind of inuries can inflict the ear?

They do not bleed much
-Check for CSF in blood -
Place a dressing between ear and scalp
-for avulsion use a moist steril dressing - Do not remove foreign bodies
- Ruptured tympanic membrane
What are some S/S to look for?
- Ringing ears
- Sudden deafness
- may indicate CVA
- Inner ear infection
- may indicate vertigo
