Sensory Integration Flashcards
What is sensory integration dysfunction?
– When a person has difficulty processing
sensory input
– Dysfunction varies from a specific
sensory system to global sensory
dysfunction
What are all of the sensations we regulate and filter? (Basic and also kinesthetic)
• Basic senses: – Taste – Smell – Sight – Sound
• The nervous system also senses:
– Touch
– Movement
– Body position and the effect of gravity
What occurs as a result of sensory integration disorder?
there may be
problems with learning, development and
behavior
Motor planning or praxis
– Involves having an idea about what to do, planning an action and executing an action
– Motor plans rely on using knowledge of past experiences and the sensations that accompany them
