Inspection & palpation of ext genitalia
Labia majora: look for redness, excoriation, lesions, discoloration, scarring
Labia minora: look for inflammation, irritation, caking of discharge, discoloration/bruising, lesions
Palpate for: irregularities, nodules
Clitoris: look for atrophy, enlargement, inflammation, adhesions
Urethral orifice: look for inflammation, dilation, discharge, polyps & other growths
Vaginal introitus: look for swelling, discoloration, discharge, lesions, fissures
ICE stands for
Inspect, check, examine
glands on both sides of urethra
Skene glands
glands on posterolateral portion of labia minora
Bartholin glands
Nontender Bartholin’s mass w/o heat
Bartholin’s cyst, dt chronic inflammation
Tender, hot Bartholins mass
abscess of gland
Perineum Tissue is thicker in
nulliparous women
ubricate speculum with
water
Gel lubricant may interfere with the
PAP test
Deviation from the midline may indicate
pelvic mass or pregnancy
