What does „psychosomatic” mean?
Psychosomatic as a term (first mentioned by Heinroth, 1818) refers to the unity and interdependence of the biological and psychosocial aspects of human existence.
What is „somatization”?
Somatization is the patient’s tendency to experience and communicate psychological distress in the form of somatic symptoms and to seek medical help for them (first mentioned by Steckel, 1925).

Health psychology
Conversions
Motor or sensory symptoms such as deficits, seizures, which cannot be explained by the physical condition or psychoactive substance use. The psychological conflict is expressed in a somatic response, which has a symbolic meaning
Functional disorders
Complaints without organic alterations in their backgorund, but the functioning of organs is altered, and is influenced by psychological factors such as stress
Psychosomatoses
These are the psychosomatic disorders in the ir narrower sense.
Diagnostic categories within the group of somatization syndromes include
Undifferentiated somatoform disorder. Hypochondriasis. Somatoform autonomic dysfunction. Persistent somatoform pain disorder. Other somatoform disorders, such as dysmenorrhoea, dysphagia etc. Somatoform disorder, unspecified.
Care-seeking type:
Medical care, visits, tests, procedures are frequently used.
Care-avoidant type:
Medical care is rarely used.

Somatic Symptom Disorder
One or more somatic symptoms that are distressing or result in significant disruption of daily life
Functional Neurological Symptom Disorder
One or more symptoms of altered voluntary motor or sensory function.
Factitious Disorder Imposed on Self
Falsification of physical or psychological signs or symptoms, or induction of injury or disease, associated with identified deception
Brief somatic symptom disorder
Duration of symptoms is less than 6 months
Brief illness anxiety disorder
Duration of symptoms is less than 6 months
