What are the deposits called in the pineal gland?
Brain sand, Acerveulus Cerebri
What is the layer surrounding the pineal gland?
A simple cuboidal capsule layer surrounding the posterior aspect, under the pia
On the pineal recess side, there is the ependymal cell layer.
Cells of the thyroid gland
Follicular cells: High columnar cells, surround the Thyroglobulin of the follicles
Parafollicular cells: produce calcitonin.
It is surrounded by a Capsule.
What is important about the Capillaries of the thyroid gland?
They are Fenestrated capillaries for hormone release.
What definitively distinguishes the Lacrimal gland from the Parotid gland and the Pancreas?
The Lacrimal gland has no intercalated or striated ducts, and the lacrimal gland Serous acini are EISINOPHILIC. The lacrimal gland acini have very large lumen.
The Pancreas is easily distinguished because it has no adipose, and the obivous Ilsets of Langerhans.
All 3 are exclusively serous
What are the tissues containing apocrine glands?
Glands that bud off their apical tips
Mammary glands.
Prostate gland. (a pseudoapocrine gland)
Apocrine sweat glands (odiferous sweat glands, concentrated in the armpits and genitals).
(this is as opposed to the sudiferous sweat glands used to regulate heat, which are throughout the hairy skin)
Merocrine glands
These are all of the Acinar glands, glands that secrete by releasing vesicles.
Holocrine secretion
Just the sebaceous glands attached to hair.
Whole cell sloughs off.
