Gross anatomy CNS Flashcards
Subiculum
Gray matter area in between the parahippocampal gyrus/cortex, and the CA1 region of the hippocampus.
induseum griseum
The supracallosal gyrus, very thin gyrus above the corpus callosum.
Merges with the paraterminal gyrus anteriorly under the genu of the corpus callosum.
Merges with the Fasciolar gyrus (which then merges with the Dentate gyrus) posteriorly under the splenium of corpus callosum.
Limbus giacomini
Thin band of gray matter coming off of the uncus of the parahippocampal gyrus, merges with the dentate gyrus.
Fornix
Fibers running from the hippocampus
to
the Mamillary bodies AND Septal Nuclei
Fimbria: the initial sheath coming off of the hippocampus
Crux/Crura: the curved posterior portion.
Hippocampal commisure: connects the two crura of the fornices
Body: the horizontal portion of the fornix under the corpus callosum
Columns: The anterior vertical portions, terminate in the mamillary bodies.
The columns have a visible part, which is Anterior to the interventricular foramen of Monro
And a hidden part, which runs deep to the floor of the third ventricle, and is Posterior to the Anterior commisure.
hippocampal commisure
aka Commisure of the Fornix
Fibers running between the two hippocampi
Parts of the columns of the fornix
Visible part, aka Pars Libera
-anterior to the interventricular foramen of Monro
and
Hidden part, aka Pars Tecta
Within the brain tissue, posterior to the anterior commisure.
What sulcus separates the superior parietal lobules and inferior parietal lobule?
The Intraprietal sulcus
Parietal lobe gyri
Lateral aspect:
- Postcentral gyrus
- Superior parietal lobule
- Inferior parietal lobule
- contains the parietal operculum, supramarginal gyrus, and angular gyrus
Medial aspect:
- posterior paracentral lobule
- ———marginal sulcus
- precuneus
fasciolar gyrus
very small gyrus that connects the supracallosal gyrus to the dentate gyrus
fusiform gyrus
Gyrus on the basal side of the temporal lobe, in between the inferior temporal sulcus and the collateral sulcus
aka the Lateral occipito-temporal gyrus
medial occiptotempral gyrus
contains the lingual gyrus of occipital lobe
and the parahippocampal gyrus of temporal lobe.
Stria terminalis runs from
The amygdala to the ventral medial nucleus of the hypothalamus.
what is the white matter connecting the pes hippocampus to the fimbria
the Alveus of the hippocampus
medial and lateral longitudinal stria
Whate matter trancts of the gray matter indusium grisium. Lie on either side of it while it runs over the corpus callosum.
What connections run to/from the mammillary bodies in the limbic system
The fornix, the stria terminalis, and the mammilothalamic tract.
