Dural sinuses and veins Flashcards

1
Q

What veins drain into the Great vein of Galen

Where does it drain to?

A

The Internal Cerebral Veins and the Basal veins of Rosenthal.

Drains to the Great vein of Galen, aka great cerebral vein (then to the Straight Sinus)

Q

Cranial Dura

A

Dense fibrous connective tissue

TWO TYPES:
ENDOSTEAL Dura,
MENINGEAL dura.

The Endosteal Dura terminates at the foramen magnum and does not continue to the spinal cord.

Meningeal Dura is continuous with the Spinal Dural Sac.
The meningeal dura also follows cranial nerves, and fuses with/becomes epineurium as the exit the skull.

16
Q

Spinal epidural space

A

A REAL/ACTUAL space.

Between the SPINAL DURAL SAC and the ENDORACHIS

17
Q

Denticulate ligament (of spinal chord)

A

A thickened flat sheath of PIA Mater on both lateral sides of the spinal cord, keeping it suspended in the middle of the dural sac.

18
Q

Epineurium is formed by what CNS derivatives

A

The Meningeal Dura/Dural Sac and the Arachnoid Mater. By some sources.

Snells also says that the CNS Pia mater surrounds both the cranial nerves and spinal nerves and forms their epineurium.
