Diencephalon terminology, development, and blood supply Flashcards
Epithalamus
Stria medullaris thalami Habenular trigone/aka habenular nucleus Habenular Commisure Pineal Gland Posterior commisure
Thalamus
Alllll of those nuclei
Subthalamus
Subthalamic nucleus
Zona incerta
H-fields of Forel - 3 separate white matter tracts
Hypothalamus
all of those nuclei, the infundibulum, stalk, posterior pineal gland aka neurohypophysis. Mammillary bodies
Metathalamus
Medial and Lateral Geniculate bodies.
Optic Recess
On floor of 3rd
In the optic Chiasm
Infundibular recess
on floor, around infundibulum
Triangular recess
on anterior wall, in btwn Anterior Commisure and Fornices
Pineal Recess
In posterior wall
Within the pineal body, in btwn the habenular and posterior commisures
Suprapineal Recess
In posterior wall
within Habenular commisure, Superior to the habenula
What are the recesses of the 3rd ventricle
There are 5
Optic Infundibular Triangular Pineal Suprapineal
Blood supply
Anteromedial Striatum and Thalamus –> From the Anteromedial Central Arteries + Recurr of Heubner
Anterolateral Striatum and Thalamus –> From Anterolateral Central Arteries/Lenticulostriate Arteries
Posterior Thalamus and Corpus Striatum –> From PCA, Thalamoperforating and Thalamogeniculate Arteries, Penetrate the posterior perforated substance
Dorsal Posterior Thalamus –> Brand of the Posterior Choroidal Artery
________________________________________________
Anteriomedial Central Arteries –> off of A1 –> anterior striatum and anteromedial thalamus
Reccurrent artery of Heubner –> Off of A1 near AComm junction –> Anterior striatum and thalamus
Both of the above penetrate Anterior Perforated Substance
Anterolateral Central Arteries = Lenticulostriate Arteries/Lateral Thalamostriate Arteries Off of M1
