Closed Questions
Limited Responses from participants. Gives quantitative data which is easy to analyze. There are many types of Closed Questions.
Rank Order Questions
A closed question. Ranking how you enjoyed something with numbers, 1 being the best and 5 being the worst.
Likert Scales
A closed question. Ranking how much you agree with the question. 1 being strongly agree, 2 being agree, 3 being neutral, 4 being disagree, and 5 being strongly disagree.
Checklist Questions
A closed question. Ticking a box with the answer that applies to the question.
Dichotomous Questions
A closed question. Answering Yes or No to a question.
Semantic Differential Questions
A closed question. A five-point scale in which the opposite ends have one- or two-word adjectives that have opposite meanings.
Open Questions
Participants are given space to respond freely. Gives much more qualitative data compared to Closed Questions. This also reduces accidental researcher bias towards a specific point of view.
Structured Interview
Like a questionnaire but the participant responds verbally to the questions given by the researcher. Questions are shown to each participant in the same way.
Semi-structured
No fixed questions, but there are a set of predetermined topics to be covered.
Unstructured Interview
Participant is free to talk about whatever want to. The interviewer may set a topic but it is not predetermined.
