Consent
When a participant agrees to their involvement in research.
Deception
When researchers don’t tell participants about the true purpose of a study they’re participating in.
Confidentiality
Information about a participant should not be revealed in research unless given permission to.
Debriefing
An explanation of the study given to participants before the study starts. This would also include any deception.
Withdrawel
The right of a participant to opt out of a study when they need to.
Protection
Participants during a study should be protected from any and all harm. Any potential risk factors from participants should be accounted for. Should be no risk above daily factors.
Competence
Psychologists should maintain high standards in their work.
Integrity
Psychologists should be honest and accurate.
Presumptive Consent
A method of dealing with lack of informed consent consent or deception, by asking a group of people who are similar to the participants whether they would agree to take part in a study. If this group of people consents to the procedures in the proposed study, it is presumed that the real participants would also have agreed.
Prior General Consent
Getting consent just before the experiment occurs.
Retrospective Consent
Getting consent after the experiment.

Respect
Dignity and worth for all people involved. Deception only acceptable when protecting the integrity of research.
