- Self-expectation - “Who or what do I want to be?”
- Self-evaluation - “How well do I like myself?”

Pride (based on positive self-eval)
Guilt (based on behaviors incongruent with ideal self)
Shame (associated with low global self-worth)

Personal identity
A person’s conscious sense of who he/she is
“How would you describe yourself to others?”
Body Image
The person’s subjective view of his or her physical appearance
Can be expected with any alteration in bodily appearance, structure or function
Self-esteem
“Tell me what you like about yourself”
Graphic description of self-esteem as the discrepancy between “real self” and “ideal self”
Role performance
Our ability to successfully live up to societal as well as our own expectations regarding role-specific behaviors
Disturbed Body Image
The state in which a person experiences confusion in the mental picture of his/her physical self
Chronic/situational low self-esteem
The state in which a person experiences, or is at risk for experiencing, negative self-evaluation about self or capabilities
Ineffective role performance
The state in which a person experiences, or is at risk for experiencing, a disruption in the way that a person perceives his/her role performance
