donepezil

A

prevents enzyme cholinesterase from inactivting ACh increasing the amount of ACh available at the receptor sites
improves cognitive function (thinking and remembering)
diarrhea, loss of appetite, nausea, trouble sleeping, vomiting unusual bleeding or bruising
GI bleeding, bradycardia,
exercise caution, fainting episodes related to slowing of the heart rate
report immediately HCP GI bleeding
monitor for adverse effects, evaluate medication compliance and therapeutic effectiveness

dilantin (phenytoin)

A

stabilizes neuronal membranes, controls seizures
ataxia, drowsiness, lethargy, gingival hyperplasia, rash, dysrhythmias, hypotension
give w or w/o food
administer IV slowly
take vitamin D
don’t stop taking abruptly
encourage good oral hygiene
