Depth of sedation
A
🤍Minimal: patient still responds to verbal commands
🖤Moderate: patient only responds to verbal commands alone or after stimulation
🤎Deep: patient requires repeated or painful stimulation

A
✅Children 3 years and >15 kg ✅Medical history confirmed, Dx and Rx ✅Permanent staff signed off ✅XLA sedation date ✅Student to complete rest of restorative work in the chair

Who is at risk of complications?
A
- very young
- congenital syndromes
- vomiting and GIT reflux
- asthma
- airway problems
- respiratory problems
- cardiac problems
- previous failed sedation
- sleep apnoea
- obesity

Pre-sedation instructions
A
- inform dentist if child suffers from any other diseases
- inform dentist if child isn’t feeling well to postpone date
- comfortable clothing only
- no food 6 hours prior
- be punctual
- Empty bladder

Post-sedation instructions
A
- child should have guardian to leave with
- rest once at home
- no coordination activities afterward
- amnesia may last for a few hours
- vision impairment
- some kids are aggressive
- introduce foods and drinks slowly to avoid vomiting
