What is GA?
A
Medically controlled state of unconsciousness with loss of protective reflexes. Patients can’t feel pain, maintain ventilation and require assistance to breathe

Contra indications
A
- GA risk
- a healthy cooperative child
- minimal dental needs
- infection
- active systemic disease
- child who didn’t fast

Indications
A
- patients with medical condition that makes if a risk to treat in chair
- too young
- multiple XLAs
- mental or sensory problems
- special needs patients
- trauma
- history of failed LA or sedation

Side effects
A
- nausea and vomiting
- chills
- sore throat
- confusion

UWC PROTOCOL
A
- 2x fluoride applications before GA
- Bottle usage must stop
- Oral hygiene must improve
- Diet analysis must be returned by patient
- Medical history must be confirmed by add and consult arranged with anesthetist
- Permanent staff member must sign off GA
- Recall one week post op
