What are the controllers actions when an A/C suffers an emergency?
Steer for suitable aerodrome.
Liaise with DandD.
Advise other A/C and avoid changing emergency a/c frequency.
What are the condition of emergency and how are they defined?
Distress: A condition of being threatened by serious and or imminent danger and requiring immediate assistance
Urgency: a condition affecting the safety of an aircraft or other vehicle on board or within sight but does not require immediate assistance.
What are the 2 parts of an emergency transmission and what info should be passed?
Distress: Mayday x3, C/Sx3
Urgency: PanPan x3 C/Sx1
Position, Heading, Level, Airspeed, A/C type and PoB Nature of emergency Intentions Other information.
What are the states of readiness for aircraft emergencies?
State 1: Crash On.
State 2: Doubt about the safety or to anticipate State 1.
State 3: Crash off or precautionary measure.
What is the definition of an AIRPROX?
A situation in which, in the opinion of a pilot or ATC personnel, the distance between aircraft as well as their relative positions and speed have been such that the safety of the aircraft involved may have been compromised.
What action must ATC take when an A/C is overdue?
Inform DandD
Inform unit personnel IAW local orders
When is a FW A/C overdue?
Not in RT comms at: ETA radar entry ETA overhead ETA landing controllers should initiate overdue action if there are any doubts.
When is a RW overdue?
Over Water: end of notified endurance
Over Land: notified endurance +1hr

What is Sim Asymmetric flight?

What is the procedure if Radio contact is lost with an air system?
Call other aircraft on frequency in use.
Instruct pilot to:
Change SSR code
Squawk Ident
turn 30* or more
Carry out a ground check of radios
Call on guard (DandD approval)
