Q

What are the CAS A and D deeming conventions using SSR mode C?

A

Mode C outside CAS, contacts can merge provided the A is not permitted to penetrate CAS and 1000’ exists.

Caution. It to erode against traffic subsequently crossing a lower portion of CAS.

Aircraft at or above FL110 squawking 700,7001,7002 without C can be deemed outside CAS and contacts can merge.

Q

What are the controllers actions and responsibilities on being advised that a pilot is manoeuvring in accordance with a TCAS RA?

A

Controllers cease to provide instructions until pilot reports ‘clear of conflict’.
Controller resumes responsibility for separation when:
Pilot reports resuming ATC clearance or
Pilot reports resuming ATC clearance and acknowledges an alternative clearance.
Controllers should not pass TI to a/c on RA
Controller ceases to be responsible for separation between the A/C.
TI may be justified (non-mode C or carriage of transponders not mandatory)

Q

What actions should controllers take in the event of clutter being present outside of CAS?

A

DS: inform Pilot, offer reroute to achieve separation.
TS or declined DS reroute: reduce Traffic info/Deconfliction Advice or downgrade to BS.
For SRA: alternative approach.

17
Q

What are the rules concerning validation of Mode 3/A?

A

As soon as possible
Recycle if no joy squawk 0000
If Mode C has been verified, where approved, corrupt code may be retained - associated ATC units are to be informed
CCS correlation procedure included in local orders.
Code can be deemed validated if no notification that it is corrupt.

18
Q

When and How should Mode C be verified?

A

+/-200ft during initial verification if not:
confirm with pilot
Switch off Mode C - if unable squawk 0000

19
Q

What are the criteria for assessing level occupancy when using verified Mode C data?

A

Level flight: +/-200ft
Vacating a level: 400ft in anticipated direction
Passing a level: 400ft in required direction
Reaching a level: 3 sweeps 200ft or less from the level.

20
Q

What do the following SSR codes indicate?
7500
7600
7700

A

7500 - Hijack
7600 - Radio Fail
7700 - Emergency
