What is the procedure if the fire alarm does not reset

Answer 1

1. If unable to reset the fire alarm panel on the first or second attempt, personnel may wait one minute in order to silence the bells (systems should not silence until after at least one minute of activation). The area/floor indication should still be showing on the alarm panel.
2. Advise the owner/tenant to have a qualified service representative repair the fire alarm system as soon as possible.
3. Issue a Notice to Rectify.
4. Advise the owner/tenant to have a responsible party contact their monitoring company and Fire Communications in order to relay “on-line/off-line” status.
5. Advise the owner/tenant that leaving the panel in the alarm condition still leaves the building monitored however this does not include the area/floor of the alarm.
6. Advise the owner/tenant to have a fire watch of the affected area/floor until such time that repairs have been completed.

• Use the “signal alarm silence” button to silence the bells
• Announce a message that the problem has been identified and that the alarm is a false alarm.

Personnel shall not intervene directly to correct fire protection system problems, but may provide information or guidance to the owner/occupant or their representative as to the possible corrective measures that may be taken to alleviate the problem.
