What is the purpose of a BCA ?
It is the structured decision making process. Think of a group of people, sitting around a table, deciding which option to go with.
What is the purpose of an executive summary and why its important?
To provide a concise summary of the key highlights of the business case. you should be able to
understand what the project is about. IE: it cost you this much and it takes this many people.
Why is strategic alignment important and how many levels of impact there are?
-It is important because it provides the reader with an understanding of how the initiative aligns
with overall business plan of the Navy and how it may impact other initiatives. It also identifies level of
impact. IE;“Are we putting money into programs that is sufficive for our goal?”
What does the analysis of alternatives do ?
-Provides the reader with an outline of the realm of possibilities that are available to address the
problem. Provides detailed descriptions of viable options that should be discussed. gives you
path a and b and c.
Give an example of a risk assessment during a BCA.
In regards to safety, how risky is it? Is it going to put more people at risk of injury? Are we going to need more safety observers?
What is cost benefit and how does it impact a BCA?
-Ensures the reader can easily understand and compare initial and ongoing expenditures to the
expected financial and non financial benefits. IE; juice vs squeeze.
List the final stages of a BCA.
-Conclusions and recommendations - process that we’re recommending
-Implementation strategy - this is how we are going to input it.
-Review and approval
