Scope Management Flashcards
What is a Project Output?
Tangible or Intangible product typically delivered by a project.
What is a Project Outcome?
Changed circumstance or behaviour that results from the use of an output.
What is a Project Benefit?
Quantifiable and measurable improvement that is perceived as positive by a stakeholder.
What is the Product Breakdown Structure (PBS)?
-The PBS represents the scope of the project.
-It breaks down the final product into sub-products.
-Selects categories of product appropriate to a particular project.
-There can be different levels of PBS:
The high level products can be shown in the project plan, created in Definition phase.
More specific lower level products can then be identified for the stages that the Deployment phase can be broken into.
What are the benefits of a Product Breakdown Structure (PBS)?
-Helps to clarify the project’s products and their components.
-Makes it easier to spot omissions and unnecessary inclusions.
-Used as a basis to identify activities (i.e the work breakdown structure).
What is the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS)?
-The WBS shows activities, not products.
-It may be derived from the PBS.
-The activities can then go into the Gantt Chart and activity network.
What are the benefits of a Work Breakdown Structure (WBS)?
-Forces team to think through the production process.
-Forms basis for activity networks and estimating (and therefore Cost Breakdown Structure).
-Defines the work content.
-Assists in preparation of Statements of Work (Work packages).
What is an Organisational Breakdown Structure (OBS)?
-The OBS shows who is working on the project and the management chain.
What is a Responsibility Assignment Matrix (RAM)?
The RAM is a matrix that demonstrates where responsibilities lie for the different work within the project.
It is created from the OBS and WBS and then assigning people to tasks.
Often expressed as RACI, who is:
-Responsible
-Accountable
-Consulted
-Informed
What is the Cost Breakdown Structure (CBS)?
The CBS shows where the costs are expected to be spent on a Project.
