Scheduling Flashcards
What is the definition of scheduling?
The process used to determine the overall project duration. This includes identification of activities and their logical dependencies, and estimating activity durations, taking into account requirements and availability of resources.
What are the types of dependencies in cheduling?
Finish to Start
Start to Finish
Finish to Finish
What is Lead?
It is an overlap between tasks that have a dependency.
What is Lag?
A delay between tasks that have a dependency.
What is total float?
Time by which an activity may be delayed or extended without affecting the total duration of the project.
What is critical path?
A sequence of activities through a precedence network from start to finish, the sum of whose durations determine the overall duration.
Describe the Gantt chart.
-A view of when the tasks are sheduled.
-Dependencies not necessarily clear (Activity network should be considered aswell.)
-Used by the PM and team to review progress.
-Used by the PM and team to see what happens in next period.
-Different levels of detail for different levls in the Project organisation.
Compare critical chain and critical path.
Critical Chain
-Focus on resource
-Float moved to a buffer to protect the chain of activities
-Monitoring is done on the buffer.
Critical Path
-Focus on activity
-Float remains with activity
-Monitoring is done by task.
Why would you use critical chain shceduling?
Work expands to fit the time allocated.
Critical chain moves the margins into a buffer to protect and work is then tracked by accounting for against the buffer.
