Scoliosis, short leg syndrome Flashcards
Scoliosis
lateral deviation from normal line
“rotoscoliosis”
because some fuck realized when you sidebend you rotate so this of course is “more appropriate”
what percent of kids have scolioisis by age 15
5% F:M 4:1
curve that sidebends left
scoliosis to the right
dextroscoliosis
curve sidebent right
scoliosis left
levoscoliosis
structural scoliotic curve
fixed and inflexible
does not correct with sidebending in opp direction
functional scoliotic curve
flexible and can be partially- completely corrected with sidebending to opp side
when find abnormal curve when screening for scoliosis correct what before geting XR
screen lumbosacral SD for a sacral shear (short leg)
cobb angles for mild, mod, severe scoliosis
mild 5-15
mod 20-45
severe >50
resp function compromised when
CV?
resp when thoracic >50 degrees
CV when >75 degrees
most causes of scoliosis
idiopathic
short leg syndrome characteristics
sacral base unleveling
vertebral sidebending and rotation
innominate rotation
most common cause anatomical leg length discrepency
hip replacement
OMT findings short leg syndrome
sacral base unleveling
anterior innominate rotation on short leg and posterior rotation on long leg
lumbar sidebend away and rotate toward short leg
the lumbosacral angle inc 2-3 degrees
iliolumbar lig and SI ligaments strained on side of short leg
when to consider heel lift
when femoral head difference is >5 mm
