- non infective inflammation of the thin layer superficial to the sclera but deep to the conjunctiva.

- Previous ocular shingles
- SLE
- RA
(episcleritis not associated with systemic disease)

- scleral thinning
- corneal thinning
- perforation

What is the treatment for scleritis?
A
- Topical or systemic steroids
- NSAIDs

how does scleritis and episcleritis differ in appearance?
A
- both have red eye
- scleritis - entire sclera red
- episcleritis - localised conjunctival injection
